Welcome to The Fisherchild Projekt. We are an NPC dedicated to Preserving Elevating and Protecting the Heritage and oral stories of the Indigenous Kalk Bay Fishing Community.
We utilise innovative and immersive pedagogies to foster a deep understanding of their role as custodians of the land and sea.

The Walk of Remembrance offers a meticulously crafted anthology of oral narratives shedding light on the historical marginalisation of the fishing community spanning 300 years.

Sites of Memory
Sites of Memory is a tribute to the resilient spirit of Kalk Bay’s original fisher families who faced both the sea’s tumultuous waves and the socio-political upheaval of apartheid.
“Sites of Memory” is a pioneering multimedia project dedicated to preserving and revitalising the diverse history of Kalk Bay, Cape Town, South Africa.

- Finding my ancestors
One thing about the church, they sure knew how to keep records. These records took me as far back as 1846. To my great great great grandparents marriage and baptism, 16 June 1846, this was also a record of the persons occupation and residence. There is was in very fancy script, residence Kalk Bay. Occupation, Fisherman. The tears started rolling down my face. How deeply rooted I am to this land. An X next to their names meant that they couldn’t read or write.
